Three ways to stick to your resolutions...

So we're three days into the new year and everyone is like, damn, what was I thinking with those stupid new year's resolutions? Why would I put myself through the exhilaration of dreaming big only to be feeling like an utter failure today? Within three days, the party's over, it's time to dig in and get our sh*t together and here I am wanting to crawl back into bed until spring.

Call me crazy, but winter is just not about jumping head first into anything. I feel like it is the polar opposite for me. Wintering is meaningful, intentional and actually good for us to slowly begin a new year... Slowly means small steps in the right direction. Tiny sparks of mindfulness are to fuel the fire that can create your most aware year of your life!

STOP thinking and get into your body. If you're not sure how, close your eyes, and bring your awareness to your feet - now imagine them feeling the ground beneath you, you can even go as far as imagining them touching the grass, or beach sand, or the waves. You are now grounded, you are now aware of your body. How long can you check in with each and every part of your body?

LOOK at your problems differently. My favorite way to get rid of negative mind sets is to flip them completely upside down. I picture a coin and flip the damn thing right in front of me. Yes, it's that easy. What part of you is being asked to step up to overcome the challenge. Step back and look at all the different ways to explore the problem.

LISTEN is my favorite one.... Listen underneath the noise. Listen to your soul. Listen to others - not to wait your turn to respond, but to merely be a witness to their words. Listen to body language first - see how it changes when you actually listen. Becoming aware of how we listen to ourselves, to each other, and to the greater cosmos is truly enlightening.

Best of luck on whatever lofty goals or aspirations you gave yourself this year. If they were too big and you're already feeling weighed down by them, simply follow the steps above - STOP, LOOK, & LISTEN. I promise, the answers will emerge.

A bonus tidbit.... choosing one word that represents the new year is a wonderful way to get back on tract. It's only one word and yet the power of it is truly magnificent. It's yours to hold onto, nourish, become friends with, and ultimately help you grow. For 2025, mine is INTENTION and it has already changed the way I'm doing everything!
