Oh crap! I totally forgot to.... fill in any number of things. For me, the first things to go are: I totally forgot to eat breakfast. I totally forgot to call my friends. I totally forgot to do my yoga. I totally forgot to LISTEN to my body. It is so easy for me to put everyone else first. It's so easy because I have a yearning to be accepted, loved unconditionally and create peace for others. And yet, here I was exhausted! Sound familiar?
The other day I was on the phone with my brother who was traveling for a work thing and seemed content about telling me how hard life has been for him lately. I listened and decided to take a risk in asking this one question. "How would you like it to be?"
He was quiet for the first time in thirty minutes, needing to think about what he actually wanted. He hadn't thought about that for years. No one asked him.
Isn't it funny how life works like that. We work, work, work and somewhere along the way we lose connection to what matters to us and find it easier to point the finger at other's behavior, circumstances that we're in or the life that we are actually living. But guess what, we did it to ourselves.
I am one hundred percent unapologetically ME. And yes, that means I tend to clean up the house FIRST and put my family FIRST and me second and then remember, STOP...
It's impossible to put my family first if I am running on empty. It's impossible to give my never ending love to those I love the most when my mind feels trapped. I know this now.
How do you want life to be? Try that on for a moment. Take a little time today to really imagine life the way you WANT it to be. For those needing more clarification, I'm not saying to write down, "I want to win the lottery and never work a day in my life." No, that is not what I am talking about. In fact, there would be a whole slew of problems that would arise from winning the lottery. I don't put that burden on anyone. What I mean is, "How do you want to FEEL?" How do you want to feel each morning you wake up? How do you want to feel about the life you built for yourself?
When you're really digging - digging into YOU, things will become clearer. It is the way God made us. There is no getting around it. You can keep wishing and hoping, but God gave us the WILL to create a life worth living. A life that has nothing to do with spreading ourselves too thin. When we look at it from that perspective, doing too much doesn't even sound right does it?
For me, I KNOW this to be true. I am of the wild. There is no other way to put it. I know I need to make my own decisions about everything I choose to do in life - and that I take responsibility for those choices. Freedom is a top value in living my best life.
When we live a life of abundance we stop going down the negative trail of fear and doubt. We stop spreading ourselves too thin. We rest. We recharge. We start thinking more about the way we WANT life to go. And then, it starts to change, little by little. One more quote for you that I truly love. There was this horse trainer that said in passing, "Do a little bit alot, not alot a little with your horses." I believe that can be said of anything in life. Doing a little bit each day, every day brings with it a firm foundation for moving forward. Enjoy the day my friends. Enjoy the day!
